Recently, the Anti-Phishing Working Group’s (APWGs) phishing activity trends report for the first quarter of 2025 shed light on several alarming trends.

According to the report’s metric, APWG observed 1,003,924 phishing attacks In the first quarter of 2025 alone. This was dubbed “the largest quarterly total since 1.07 million were observed in Q4 2023”. OpSec Security, a founding member of APWG, recorded that the Software as a Service (SaaS)/Webmail category was the most-attacked sector. Approximatly 17.6 % of all phishing attacks. Furthermore, Attacks against online payment companies and the financial (banking) sectors grew in 1Q 2205. All together totaling 30.9 % of all attacks.
